Prithviraj: Is the Akshay Kumar period film only a love story as speculated or will there be big battle scenes? – here's what we know [EXCLUSIVE]

Prithviraj has been one of the most talked about Bollywood movies ever since its announcement. For starters, it marks Akshay Kumar's return to the YRF stable 13 years after Tashan, and that, too, in a genre we've never seen the actor in (despite all his years in the industry) a period film. Plus, it marks the debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, making it the biggest launch for an outsider after Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (incidentally, another YRF film) and Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om.

There's also been speculation ever since the film's inception that it's an out-an-out love story, focusing on King Prithviraj Chauhan and his beloved, Sanyogita aka Samyukta one of his three wives (their romance has been immortalised in folklore over the ages). Naturally, this led to some disappointment, particularly among diehard Akshay Kumar fans, who were looking forward to see the Khiladi perform some daredevilry in his eponymous character on the battlefield. Well, be disappointed no more because we've got some exclusive inside scoop on the movie, and the speculations couldn't be further from the truth.

A well-placed source within the industry has exclusively informed BollywoodLife that while the plot of Prithviraj revolves around the romance between the exalted ruler and Sanyogita, the film will also have a fair share of battle scenes, befitting a story and scale of this magnitude. In fact, the said source has apprised us that a huge set for a major battle scene in the film was constructed at Mumbai's Madh Island, and that the scene, which involves both Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt, has been shot on a lavish scale, complete with epic fight choreography and rousing action set pieces. In fact, this scene is touted to be the film's major highlight and is expected to occur in the second half.

So, that's that about all the talk of Prithviraj being primarily a love story. As far as we know, the movie will be an equal mix of both action and romance as per the demands of the subject, and if that battle sequence turns out like anything we've been told, then boy, are we in for a treat. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Aditya Chopra, Prithviraj is currently slated for a Diwali release in theatres on 5th November.
