The evergreen diva of Bollywood, Bhanurekha Ganesan, who is known by her screen name Rekha, started her career as a child actress with Telugu film Inti Guttu. And post that she acted in over 150 films in different languages and garnered many accolades including a National Award and three Filmfare Awards. In an old interview with Filmfare in 1984 said that it's her fantasy to have lots of children.

She said, "My fantasy is to have lots of children. I hope it doesn't remain a fantasy. My mother always tells me to have a child by the time I'm 30. I think it's right. I want my children to grow with me physically. I don't think there will be a communication gap because I'm very forward. I think 100 years in advance." The Khoobsurat actress further said, "I enjoy the privacy of my home. But I want the emptiness of my houses to be filled with children. Just imagine, children running up the stairs. But I am determined not to have only two children, 12 minimum."

In 80s Rekha grabbed headlines for reportedly love affair with Amitabh Bachchan. In Rekha's biography by Yasser Usman titiled Rekha - The Untold Story, the excerpt reads, "In 1977 Sultan Ahmad's dacoit flick, Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978), was being filmed near jaipur. During an outdoor shoot, a huge crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the stars. But, one man in the crowd kept passing lewd remarks at Rekha. Despite repeated warnings, his nastiness continued. Amitabh, known for his composure, is said to have lost his cool and beat up the man." It further adds, "This started a gossip wildfire. Film magazines played up the incident and speculated about why 'the classy and sophisticated Amitabh' would get into a fist fight for Rekha. What was going on? What started as hushed murmurs about a romance between them got amplified and the rumours mills went into overdrive."
