Here’s why Chris Hemsworth feels people don’t take him seriously; says ‘There is certain vanity attached to bulking up’

Even the God Of Thunder appears to struggle with body image issues, and he is acutely aware of how others perceive his appearance.

Chris Hemsworth admitted in a recent interview with The Telegraph that people perceive him differently as an actor because of the body he has had to bulk up for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He said, “I feel that people think there is a certain vanity attached to bodybuilding or bulking up. Had I been unhealthy, skinny, or been required to put on unhealthy weight for my projects, I would be perceived as a serious actor. The training across 10 years if doing it is a full-time job. That and a 12 hours shooting day. It’s a real grind.”

Hemsworth made news with his “Fat Thor” alter ego in the years leading up to the release of Avengers: Endgame. Later, it was discovered that he was dressed in a fat suit.

Hemsworth has grown bigger and muscular with each Marvel picture since his initial appearance as Thor in 2011, as eagle-eyed cinephiles would have noted. Even if it’s for the camera, he remarked in the interview that performers like him need to bulk up in a certain way. One would suppose that because of the way movies are shot, performers can obtain very bulked-up biceps by cheating.
