Throwback Thursday: When birthday boy Vivek Oberoi replaced THIS actor to give one of his finest performances in Saathiya

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who has impressed us with his acting skills in films like Company, Saathiya, Rakhta Charitra and others, is celebrating his 44th birthday today. While the star has witnessed several ups and downs in his personal and professional career, Saathiya is considered as one of the best films of his career and also the actor's most successful film as a solo hero. While Vivek Oberoi's mesmerising chemistry with Rani Mukerji and AR Rahman's melodies are still fresh in our mind and hearts, you'll be quite amazed to know he was not the first choice for the romantic drama.

Director Shaad Ali offered the role to Abhishek Bachchan and when he turned down the offer, Vivek Oberoi was roped in and as we know, the rest is history. Abhishek later collaborated with Shaad for Bunty Aur Babli, which was also a huge box office hit. Talking about Saathiya, it was the remake of Alaipayuthey, which was directed by Mani Ratnam and featured Madhavan and Shalini in pivotal roles. Saathiya also featured Sandhya Mridul, Satish Shah, Tanuja, Sharat Saxena and Swaroop Sampat in supporting roles, with cameos from Shah Rukh Khan and Tabu. Apart from being a box office winner, Saathiya won six Filmfare Awards, which included, Best Actress (Critics) - Rani Mukerji, Best Music - A..R. Rahman, Best Lyrics - Gulzar, Best Male Playback - Sonu Nigam, Best Dialogue - Gulzar and Best Screenplay - Mani Ratnam.

On the work front, Vivek Oberoi was last seen in the biopic of PM Narendra Modi, which was directed by Omung Kumar. The film also featured Manoj Joshi, Boman Irani, Barkha Sengupta, Aanjjan Srivastav and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles. It was produced by Suresh Oberoi, Sandip Ssingh, Anand Pandit, Acharya Manish and Zafar Mehdi.

Here's wishing Vivek Oberoi a very happy birthday.
